news) , which rose at the end of last week on talk a potential bidder was circling, are up again today after the oil explorer confirmed it had received a bid approach.
Aberdeen-based oil and gas firm Venture Production (LSE: VPC.L - news) , which has rejected last Friday's 845p-a-share hostile cash bid from energy giant Centrica (LSE: CNA.L - news) , is also a strong riser.
Sticking with resources, mining stocks are lower, with Xstrata (LSE: XTA.L - news) among the fallers after a report in the Observer yesterday said the firm may offer a cash payment to persuade shareholders in rival Anglo American (LSE: AAL.L - news) to consider its merger proposal.
