LONDON (ShareCast) - European markets are on the rise in early dealings Monday morning, with telecom shares in demand on M&A talk.
Mobile phone giant Vodafone (LSE: VOD.L - news)
is mulling a bid for T-Mobile UK, the British wireless unit of Deutsche Telekom (Xetra: 555750 - news) , according to press reports.
The Financial Times is quoting people familiar with the situation as saying that the company is considering making an offer for T-Mobile UK, which has an estimated enterprise value of €3bn-€4bn, or setting up a joint venture.
Across the markets, the German DAX is up 17 points at 4,793 with the French CAC rising 21 points to 3,151. The Swiss market has added 13 points to 5,389.
Elsewhere, convicted fraudster Bernard Madoff is expected to be sent to jail for the remainder of his life today as sentence is handed down on his $50bn (£30.3bn) ponzi-style investment fraud.
