LONDON (ShareCast) - Steve Jobs, chief executive of computer and iPod maker Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL - news) , has an "excellent prognosis" after
receiving a liver transplant at a US hospital, his doctor has confirmed.
Dr James D. Eason, chief of transplantation at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, said Jobs was in end-stage liver disease when receiving the transplant.
"He received a liver transplant because he was (...) the sickest patient on the waiting list at the time a donor organ became available," Dr. Eason said.
"Mr. Jobs is now recovering well and has an excellent prognosis," he added.
Yesterday it has been reported that Jobs, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2004 and has been off work since January, has returned to work after a period of absence due to ill-health.
Jobs was seen leaving the firm's offices in Cupertino in California's Silicon Valley, according to the news agency Reuters.
