LONDON (ShareCast) - European shares have turned cautiously higher in midday trade on another quiet day for corporate news.
Banks are going well with Commerzbank (Xetra: 803200 - news)
, BNP Paribas (Paris: FR0000131104 - news) and UBS (Virt-X: UBSN.VX - news) all on the rise.
Energy shares are slightly lower with Total and Royal Dutch Shell (Amsterdam: RDSA.AS - news) paring some gains.
Following the report US light crude for July rose $1.32 to settle at $71.33 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest settlement for seven months.
Across the markets, the German DAX is up 33 points at 5,084 with the French CAC rising 5 points at 3,320. The Swiss market is up 61 points to 5,497.
Swiss fragrances and flavors maker Givaudan (Virt-X: GIVN.VX - news) dropped after announcing plans to raise 420m Swiss francs to reduce debt.
In economic news out later today, US retail sales for May are expected to have risen 0.3% in May after dipping 0.4% in April, helped by an upturn in demand for cars, despite the well publicised financial troubles suffered by General Motors (NYSE: GM - news) and Chrysler (Xetra: 710000 - news) .
With car sales excluded, retail sales are tipped to rise 0.2%, after falling 0.5% in April.
