Market overview: Footsie out of the red

LONDON (ShareCast) - 1035: Footsie (news) has moved into the blue on a quiet day on the company news front. Banks are higher led by RBS (LSE: RBS.L
- news) . In the FTSE 250 (news) , electronic components distributor Premier Farnell (LSE: PFL.L - news) is lower even after it saw first quarter profit slump 63% as the poor market trends it experienced in the fourth quarter persisted. FTSE 100 up 8 at 4,445.

0820: London's blue chips are slightly lower in early dealings with commodity stocks among the main fallers following yesterday's stellar gains. Mining giants Lonmin (LSE: LMI.L - news) , Rio Tinto (LSE: RIO.L - news) , Eurasian Natural Resources and Xstrata (LSE: XTA.L - news) are all down. In company news, Home Retail Group said both Argos and Homebase enjoyed better than expected sales in the quarter and grew market share. FTSE 100 is down 9 points at 4,428.
