Britain's BAE becomes Pentagon's No. 5 supplier

By Andrea Shalal-Esa WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Britain's BAE Systems Plc (LSE: AP16.L - news) became the Pentagon's fifth-largest defense contractor in fiscal 2008, knocking Raytheon Co (NYSE: RTN - news) out of a spot it held since at least 2000, according to a White House website. BAE, based in Farnborough, England, worked on prime contracts valued at $12.3 billion in the year ended Sept. 30, 2008, up from around $10 billion in prime contracts a year earlier, when it was ranked the No. 6 Pentagon contractor. The Pentagon's top four suppliers did not change from 2007. In order of sales, they were Lockheed Martin Corp (NYSE: LMT - news) , Boeing Co (NYSE: BA - news) , Northrop Grumman Corp (NYSE: NOC - news) and General Dynamics Corp, according to data posted on the White House website http://www.usaspending.gov. Raytheon dropped to sixth place, followed by United Technologies Corp, L-3 Communications Holdings, and KBR (NYSE: KBR - news) , the Pentagon's biggest contractor in Iraq. Navistar Defense LLC, a unit of Navistar International Corp vaulted into the No. 10 spot, aided by its sales of mine-resistant, ambush-protected trucks for the U.S. military. Science Applications International Corp (NYSE: SAI - news) held the No. 10 spot IN 2007. Following is a list of the top 10 Pentagon suppliers, measured in terms of prime contracts.
