Thursday Preview: Interest rates, Hammerson, Cobham
LONDON (ShareCast) - With inflation and recession fears both exercising Monetary Policy Committee members' minds, it seems likely that rates will stay unchanged. MPC (A050540.KQ
- news) member Timothy Besley said recently that while interest rates are mildly restrictive, this was justifiable given the threat of inflation. The Bank (TBHS - news) 's Monetary Policy Committee was split three ways the last time it met to decide on rates, with Besley voting for a rate rise, arch-dove David Blanchflower favouring a cut and the other seven members opting to keep rates on hold.Among the big companies issuing interim results are the real estate giant Hammerson and the aerospace and defence firm Cobham (LSE: COB.L - news) . Hammerson said in May that there have been further declines in UK property values in the first quarter of the year as activity in the real estate market remained restricted. Cobham said in the same month that it is confident of achieving its growth targets in 2008 after its order book rose 14% in the first-quarter. INTERIMS
