Sector movers: Life insurers down

LONDON (ShareCast) - A profit warning from German insurance giant Munich Re has sparked selling in the life insurance sector, with Legal & General the worst performing blue-chip, with Aviva (LSE: AV.L
- news) and Standard Life (LSE: SL.L - news) not far behind.

Oil futures continuing to rise for the second day has given oil and gas producers a boost. AS a result, BG Group (LSE: BG.L - news) , BP (LSE: BP.L - news) , Tullow Oil (Dublin: TQW.IR - news) , Cairn Energy (LSE: CNE.L - news) and Royal Dutch Shell (LSE: RDSB.L - news) are the top five risers of the day so far.

Miners were also posting minimal gains. BHP Billiton (LSE: BLT.L - news) advanced after it agreed to spend US$625m of its own money on the full field development of the Turrum oil and gas field in the Gippsland Basin, offshore Victoria.
