FTSE 100 movers: Experian best of the bunch

LONDON (ShareCast) - Credit checking firm Experian (LSE: EXPN.L - news) is one of the best of the Footsie (news)
bunch so far after reporting a 1% rise in first quarter organic revenue, despite market expectations of a decline.

Hedge fund manager Man is also in demand after funds under management rose to $79.5bn at 30 June 2008 from $74.6bn at 31 March 2008, put down to reduced redemption rates in the quarter, combined with positive performance across its core investment managers.

Demand for its fund products has remained strong, both from private investors and institutions, with sales in its first quarter to 30 June 2008 totalling $5bn.

Miners are up led by ENRC on hopes that copper and other base metal prices could spike even further upwards. Antofagasta (LSE: ANTO.L - news) and Vedanta are also going well helped by broker comment.

Chile-focused copper miner Antofagasta goes up to 'buy' from 'hold' at Citigroup (ASFZ.PK - news) , with price target held at 800p following a 20% slide in the Metals and Mining sector since May's peak.

The broker reckons the sector now represents good value. It also upped its target on Xstrata (LSE: XTA.L - news) to 5,000p from 4,500p and kept the miner and peers Vedanta, Anglo American (LSE: AAL.L - news) and First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO - news) as a 'buy'.

The Bank (TBHS - news) of England's decision to hold interest rates at 5% has knocked consumer stocks with Kingfisher (LSE: KGF.L - news) and Carphone Warehouse (LSE: CPW.L - news) leading the retail sector lower.

Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS - news) has also placed DIY retailer Kingfisher on its 'conviction sell' list due partly to its exposure to big ticket items in the current downturn.
