Wet Seal April same-store sales fall 1.9%; chief merchandise officer resigns
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - The Wet Seal Inc. said Thursday sales from stores open at least a year fell 1.9% in April from year-ago levels; analysts polled by Thomson Reuters (TRI.TO - news) expected, on average, a same-store sales decline of 5.6%.
The specialty retailer to young women said total sales for the four-week period ended May 3 rose 7% to $42 million.
For the first quarter, the company said same-store sales fell 7.5% while total sales rose 3.2% to $142.4 million.
In a separate release, Wet Seal (NASDAQ: WTSLA - news) said its chief merchandise officer Dyan Jozwick has resigned to pursue other professional interests. Joswick will remain with the company through May 30.
