Solvay to build fuel power plant at co site in Germany; operational from 2010

BRUSSELS (Thomson Financial) - Pharmaceutical group Solvay S.A. said it has started work to build a refuse derived fuel power plant at its site in Bernburg, Germany.

The plant is scheduled to supply energy for the production of sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide from the spring of 2010.

The construction and the operation of the new power plant, which will generate both electricity and steam, will take place in partnership with German waste disposal and recycling group Tonsmeier.

No financial details were disclosed.
