Week ahead: Associated British Foods, BHP Billiton, Shire
LONDON (ShareCast) - Associated British Foods (LSE: ABF.L - news) said in February that strong growth in agriculture, groceries and its
department store Primark helped offset declines in sugar. JP Morgan expects first half results to show lower margins caused by EU sugar regime changes, with ABF struggling to cope with input cost inflation. The broker envisages a 13% rise in revenues to £3.6bn. More data on the mining sector comes out with BHP Billiton (LSE: BLT.L - news) 's quarterly results. The diversified miner has been much talked about lately in relation both to its proposed takeover of rival Rio Tinto (Frankfurt: 855018 - news) and, more recently, speculation that the Chinese authorities are looking to buy a stake in BHP. Quarterly results are also due from the drugs giant Shire (LSE: SHP.L - news) . The company saw revenue growth of 36% in the 12 months to 31 December. In economic news, the market will be looking to the minutes from the recent Bank of England interest rate meeting, when the Monetary Policy Committee cut rates by a quarter point to 5%, and to retail sales figures.
