PARIS (AFP) - Transatlantic stock market operator NYSE Euronext said Friday it had reached an agreement to acquire Powernext Carbon, the emissions permit division of electricity trading company Powernext.

Financial details were not disclosed.

The deal will be coupled with NYSE Euronext's complete withdrawal from Powernext through the sale of its 34 percent interest in the company, it said.

Powernext Carbon will provide the basis for an organized international market in carbon dioxide emission permits and credits to be developed alongside France's Caisse des Depots et Consignations (CDC (CHINA - news) ), an investment fund.

In October, NYSE Euronext and CDC announced a joint venture to offer a full range of international market services for carbon emission permits, from trading to settlement and delivery.
