Oil prices strike 106 dollars for first time

LONDON (AFP) - Oil prices hit a record high 106 dollars per barrel on Friday as the market won support from the falling US currency and stretched global energy supplies, traders said.

New York's main oil contract, light sweet crude for delivery in April, reached the historic level in late afternoon trade, topping the previous record of 105.97 dollars that was set on Thursday.
