UPDATE 1-Cyprus Oct CPI -0.8 pct y/y vs -1.2 Sept

NICOSIA, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Cyprus's consumer inflation was running at -0.8 percent year-on-year in October compared to -1.2 percent in September, the statistics department said on Thursday.

The consumer price index (CPI (NYSE:
CPY - news) ) tracker rose by 1.28 percent month-on-month in October, from 1.0 percent a month earlier.

There were monthly increases in prices of clothing, footwear and electricity and a drop in the price of fuel.

Inflation was running at 0.1 percent over the January to October period compared to last year.

Compared to a year ago, healthcare and education recorded price increases exceeding 5.0 percent, while transport bills were down 5.6 percent.
