LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Perennial takeover target ITV PLC (LSE: ITV.L - news) is not being stalked by private equity firm Apax Partners,
according to sources close to the company.

The Mail on Sunday reported the company was considering returning for ITV after a Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS - news) -backed offer was rejected in 2005. However, a source familiar with the matter said a bid for ITV was not being discussed.

ITV shares jumped more than 3 pct in morning trade, but have since given back more than was gained. At 12.11 pm the broadcaster was down 0.4 pence or 0.42 pct at 95.8.

Apax and ITV declined to comment.
