Volkswagen mulls building plant for compact car in Thailand - report

FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Volkswagen AG (Xetra: 766400 - news) is looking into building a factory in Thailand, aiming to produce at least 100,000 units of a compact car there annually, car magazine Auto Motor und Sport reported in its online edition, citing sources at the company.

The German carmaker may invest about 614 mln eur in the plant in the Thai city of Samut Prakan, the magazine cited the sources as saying.

A Volkswagen spokesman told Auto Motor und Sport the company is considering building a new plant in southeast Asia, also assessing its options in Thailand, and has not yet made a decision.
