Thai May fuel demand up 2.2 pct yr/yr - ministry
BANGKOK, July 3 (Reuters) - Thailand's demand for oil
products, excluding bitumen and liquefied petroleum gas, rose 2.2
percent in May to 583,908 barrels per day, after three months of
falls, according to a Reuters calculation based on official data.
The pick-up in demand came at a time of relatively low oil
prices and optimism in some quarters that the economy was over
its worst after falling into recession, analysts said.
Demand for 95-Octane gasoline dipped 42 percent in May from
the same month a year earlier as drivers favoured subsidised
gasohol, Energy Ministry data showed.
Consequently, sales of gasohol -- a mix of 91-Octane gasoline
and ethanol -- rose 53 percent from a year earlier, according to
the Department of Energy Business's website, www.doeb.go.th.
Demand for diesel was down 31 percent from a year earlier,
while fuel oil fell 26 percent and demand for jet fuel dropped 12
percent.
