UPDATE 1-Prudential says UK chief Prettejohn to leave
LONDON, July 2 (Reuters) - Britain's biggest life insurer Prudential said on Thursday its chief executive for the UK and Europe, Nick Prettejohn, will leave the company in September, to be replaced by Rob Devey of Lloyds Banking Group (LSE: LLOY.L - news) .
Prettejohn had been seen as a potential successor to Prudential's chief executive, Mark Tucker. The insurer announced it would appoint its chief financial officer, Tidjane Thiam, to the role in March.
Prettejohn was the chief executive of the Lloyd's of London insurance market between 1999 and 2005.
A spokesman at Prudential said Prettejohn achieved what he wanted to within the group. 'He wants to go on to new challenges,' he added.
Devey is currently managing director for direct channels at Lloyds Banking Group and was managing director of HBOS Financial Services and its General Insurance unit prior to that.
