Brazil Sao Paulo June inflation slows to 0.13 pct
SAO PAULO, July 2 (Reuters) - Consumer prices in Brazil's
largest city, Sao Paulo, rose 0.13 percent in June, slowing
their advance from a 0.33 percent increase in May, the FIPE
research institute said on Thursday.
The IPC-FIPE index had been expected to climb
0.16 percent, according to the median forecast of 21 economists
surveyed by Reuters. Estimates ranged from an increase of 0.16
percent to a gain of 0.23 percent.
The FIPE index is closely watched by economists for trends
in Brazil's benchmark IPCA inflation index, which is used by
the central bank as a guide when setting interest rates. The
IPCA also determines the value of tens of billions of dollars'
worth of Brazilian bonds.
The government will release IPCA inflation data for June on
July 8.
