LONDON (Reuters) - European equities extended gains in late afternoon trade on Wednesday, with strong crude and metals prices boosting energy and mining shares.
The FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares rose 2 percent to 867.22 points after falling 1.1 percent on the last day of the second quarter.
Energy shares were among top gainers as crude jumped 2.6 percent to trade above $71 a barrel following a large drop in crude inventories in the United States.
BP , Royal Dutch Shell , BG Group , Tullow Oil , Repsol , Total and StatoilHydro added between 2 and 4.9 percent.
